The Redwoods
And soooooo.......you're almost up to date. Since leaving Vancouver we stayed in a couple of random sites again. Canon Beach area was lovely Sandi.....campsites all busy and pre-booked. The Oregon coastline is stunning...well the bits we have seen anyway. The first section started in the state of Washington but smoke from the fires in British Columbia had blown over leaving a haze hanging in the air. Vision didn't improve that much in Oregon as to our total disbelief Sea fog/mist clung to the 101 Pacific Scenic Byway making us miss so much of what we wanted to see.
Our dampened spirits were awakened with the appearance of the sun in a gap in the fog between Lincoln City and Newport.......we pulled in for a photo and found......Gray Whales.....well what a treat......we ended up spending around 3 hours mesmerised and chuckling to ourselves that we didn't have to pay to see when boats full of tourists on 'whale watching trips' kept heading over to our position along the coast.
Eventually pulling ourselves away from the spectacle we pulled into a KOA site just before Crescent City in California.......and oh....we've been naughty......we brought a fresh melon into California......well they didn't ask ????!!!!
Why are we here.......we've been on a ride out through the Redwood forest...well one of them. Such incredible trees, so old and majestic, just amazing. We even rode through one.....really!!
So now we've left the Redwoods and are heading back Northwards to Crater Lake.....guess what ...the sun's out here.....started of with fog this morning though. And guess what again....hope it does'nt spoil tomorrow....we've just been informed there's a fire at Crater Lake...hope they manage to put it out, I think we can still get up there at the moment.........
