Beartooth Pass...Again....I See It Now....
Thursday 17th August.....evening....we're leaving the campground we're on at Yellowstone tomorrow (Friday).......we eagerly check the weather report for Beartooth Pass.....yey.....sun forecast.
The alarm goes off at 6am on the Friday morning.....it's really cold. Today we have to ride over 200 miles back on ourselves because we discovered our original route from West Yellowstone to Chadron in Nebraska was in the path of the coming Eclipse.....people have gone mad for it and campsites and motels are fully booked........the ones with space left are charging $500 and $1000 or more. So anyway it's worked out we managed to book a campsite for four days in Sheridan for $30 per night and we going to collect a part we ordered for my bike at Beartooth Harley Davidson, Billings.
Although the day started off cold.....what an amazing days ride we had. Rode back through Yellowstone in glorious sunshine and got some great shots of buffalo herds. By the time we got to Beartooth Pass we'd warmed up and the pass was clear. A wonderful road to ride and so much more fun when you can see it. As well as the fabulous views we were also treated to a 'Vintage Car' rally going over the pass and just over the summit we stopped for a drink and some cookies and ended up sharing with the chipmunks up there. Click on 'chipmunks' for the little video. It was hard dragging ourselves away from them.....cheeky monkeys......anyway onwards we rode, collected my upper belt guard from the Harley shop and eventually arrived at Sheridan.....ah a bit of chill out time.
