Hotel Mirador Acapulco.....

An amazing hotel.........we thought so anyway.

The Hotel Mirador...... a slightly dated older hotel but a hotel that has an 'Iconic' status....made famous by the number of celebs who have stayed there in the past and probably more so by the film 'Fun In Acapulco' starring Elvis Presley......though he never stayed there but that's another story......just 'Google' it. Cliff diving scene....check out the hotel in the background...our room was on the left as you look at the screen, though it's changed slightly since then.....also note how Elvis is super imposed on the screen......go on 'Google' why.....

We'd already booked this hotel some time ago as we both wanted to visit it and watch the famous 'Cliff Diving' that the hotel was also famous for.

We were not disappointed.....if you haven't already seen the little clip from my mobile....check it out here.......'Cliff Divers'........

Our room was just above the diving....if you leant over you could see them. A better view was from the restaurant....they dived several times a day so you could watch them whilst you were having your breakfast, lunch, tea.... and even at night suppertime.

The divers are called 'The Quebrada Cliff Divers' and are incredible, it's an absolute pleasure to watch them.....jumping off one side of the narrow channel, scrambling up the cliff like 'sure footed mountain goats' and then they 'pray' and wave to the audience before psyching themselves up to dive.....what a spectacle. As it was nearly Christmas when we were there, every night that they dived they went through a little routine switching on Christmas lights on a strategically placed Christmas tree on the rocks.

Sometimes they would dive separately or in twos or even threes and do somersaults ..... waving again as they surfaced from the ocean.

Tourist boats sail in to watch....hanging back from the rocks...jousting a little for the best position but everybody got to view and take photos.

After diving and surfacing the lads....we didn't see any girls......would swim out to the boats for tips and come bounding up the steps of the hotel dripping and scantily clad in their swimming trunks......blimey....where's a girl to look.....almost naked, toned, tanned young men in speedos....gotta be worth a tip.....lol....just kidding...they were brilliant.

Inside the hotel there's sort of a little museum.....it's actually an old movie camera and lots of pictures of celebs and the divers on the walls. There's also walls with painted signatures on. Some brilliant old pictures.

We spent a week at this hotel and loved it, even though it was slightly dated in places it is also being modernised. The restaurants are open air, the weather always seems to be warm there and there's a gift shop and three pools, one's a sea pool with lots of fish in it....a bit like swimming in your own personal aquarium, a peaceful middle pool and a top pool with some cracking views over Acapulco.

We were sorry to leave this hotel, it was affordable, good food, safe parking for the bikes....the Security Guard was ace......the day we left we said our goodbyes and outside the Acapulco Federal Police were gathering for a photo shoot by the Acapulco sign.....imagine our surprise and delight when they invited us in for a photo.......priceless.

You can see these photos and more in Gallery Nine.....Acapulco is in Slideshow One....enjoy....we did xx
