Acapulco to Minatitlan....

After the surprise photo shoot and saying a few more goodbyes we finally left The Mirador Hotel....we made a couple of wrong turns getting out of Acapulco but our spirits did not get deterred and after finding the right route out and the Federale Police driving past us waving we left Acapulco with massive smiles on our faces.

We continued to follow the Mex 200 down as far as Puerto Escondido, pulling in there for the night to a hotel that backed onto the beach. From there the next day again we followed the Mex 200 as far as Salina Cruz where we turned inland across the narrowest part of Mexico. This route took us along the 185D and then onto the 185 passing by La Ventosa where there's a lot of the wind turbines......and yes it was windy in that section.

It was along the 185 that we encountered our first more serious type of road block. We'd been through blocks before but only the usual Police/Army checkpoint stuff and traffic jams caused by sellers in the road.....nope this wasn't one of those....the traffic was backed up several miles.

Being on bikes we filtered down to the front where we discovered that the villagers (that's an assumption) or protesters had blocked the road with rocks and there was all sorts of chaos. Whilst we sat there weighing up our options of 'how to get past'.....one of the protesters/villagers spotted us....shouted something at a couple of others and they turned round and moved the rocks and waved us through.

We still don't know to this day what they were protesting against but their argument was not with us. We rode through the centre of the protest.....'smiles, hola's and muchas gracias' from us going a long way and ended up on the pavement to get past the now lengthy line of cars and trucks on the other side. It wasn't possible to filter as people had their doors open and were stood chatting, wagon drivers had resorted to taking naps in the shade under their wagons. A few scooter/mopeds followed us through and people moved out of the way along the pavement waving at us and seemingly loving the International two fingered peace sign that I have a tendency to make these days.

A lot of them seem to be bemused by the 'amigos' on the back of my bike....Brigid Wendall and Donkey. I guess Brigid looks 'kinda' cool with her motorcycle goggles and helmet.....Donkey is still looking for a sombrero that fits.

We continue, relieved that we didn't get stuck in the jam. The 185 is now almost completely empty of traffic going our direction so we just cruised along ending our day at dusk in Minatitlan. Thankfully a City Express loomed up on the right, great hope they've got a room.....they did.....supermarket across the road......unload, tea, shower and bed....zzzzzzz.
