Punta Allen......
We left Kantemo on the 10th January 2018.....Edgar and his Wife waved us off.....where are we going.....another spot picked off randomly on the map...Punta Allen.
This small village lies at the end of a spit of land in the Reserva de la Biosfera Sian Ka'an.....small it maybe but what an epic task getting there. From Tulum it's only about 34 miles.....easy peasy you may think........5 hours it took us.....5 hours!!!!
Initially the road is paved....great but very busy, passing through the mega tourist metropolis of Tulum....you then reach the 'Archway'.....
This is the entrance to the Sian Ka'an reserve....we stopped here to pay a small fee of approx. 30 pesos and sign in. The paved road ends here and you're in for it....well we were, on laden Harleys...lol.
This road is a dirt/gravel mega pot holed route....looks ok in places but it was kind of crazy. I'd had my side stand welded in Cancun....oh dear.....well that didn't hold did it now....!!!!!
So side stand off again.....Chris ties it up and we carry on. Not much further along I take my eye off the potholes for a second......and thunk.....down she goes.....I was looking for crocodiles over the bushes....and if you're wondering....yes it was stupid and no I can't pick it up on my own however hard I've tried......even after watching the biker vids that tell us girls we can do it.....nope....nada. Good job I've got a Chris x
You can't see it but there's actually a pothole in front of the bike.
......breathe....and continue. We stopped for a drink and met a couple from London out here on holiday...well he was a 'Kiwi' but had lived in London for a while...he was apparently starting some new magazine in September 2018 about women who ride .....I think. He did take some photos but I'm in a couple so probably not what they're looking for.
We get a respite from the potholes as we reach a bridge....oooh....nice and smooth...and.....and.....there's a crocodile in the water....yey...first one we've ever seen in the wild.
After half an hour gawping we continued our quest to get to Punta Allen.....5 hours later....we arrived. and on arrival......what do I do again....drop it......the sand got me.....on a bend....flippin rubbish...!!!
We were looking forwards to it down here as we were camping on the beach at a place called Serenidad Shardon. Here we were welcomed by the lovely Niki.
Punta Allen turned out to be really pleasant .....we just enjoyed lazing around on the beach, eating out at the local restaurants....there are several to choose from. We also went out walking to the lighthouse at the end of the spittle but there's other stuff to do here.....fishing seems to be popular and boat trips.....we watched many 4 x 4 tours come in, dropping tourists off to go snorkelling. One thing we had noticed down here was the amount of rubbish that was washing up on the shores from elsewhere in the World......such a shame.....this is how we met Anad Nada....a German lady who was staying down here helping to clean the beach and camping just a bit further down from us. Anad had travelled quite a bit and gave us some recommendations for places ahead of us. Thanks Anad.
Time to go again....a little bit more of Mexico to see but first we've got to ride another 5 hours back up the pot holes to Tulum and get that side stand welded again......oh joy.......
You can see a little of the ride below....looks easy on here.......
